Characteristics of Tetramorium caespitum

• Small and robust ant: workers 2.5 to 4 mm

• Dark brown to black in color, with a rough texture on the thorax

• Queen 7–8 mm, compact and very fertile

• Monogynous (one queen per colony)

• Highly territorial and a good defender of the colony

• Activity visible from the first days, even in small colonies

• Ideal temperature: 20–28°C

• Humidity: medium (keep the cotton in the tube always moist)

• Feeding:

  • Protein: small insects (flies, crickets, dubias)

  • Sugars: mead, diluted honey, nectars or nutritional gels
